Rousey is the crowd favorite with leading odds. Here’s why. Although Nunes lands her throws more quickly, has the longer reach, and has been active for the past year, Rousey takes her opponents out. Quick. She has a history of winning knockouts.
Some of her Rousey’s history: Back in March, 2016, the UFC named her the #2 Female Bantamweight fighter in the world. Coming in at #4, Sherdog and Fight Matrix give her the rank in the pound-for-pound fighter, Women’s MMA. She was the first woman to receive an Olympic medal in Judo (2008, Beijing). 6 of her later 12-consecutive MMA fights were in the UFC, each won. The 13th was the takedown by the only one to do so, Holly Holm.
UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm was held in Melbourne, Australia, November 15th, 2015 at the Etihad stadium. The show was expected to be headlined by the men’s division, but due to a thumb injury by UFC then-Welterweight Campaign Robbie Lawler, the women took center stage. Holm came with an 18-time winning boxing streak in 3 different weight classes! Yet, Rousey was favored to win…
Following her lose to Holm, Rousey took some time off, 411 days to be exact. But, we knew this was coming. After all, in an interview with Rolling Stone on November 11th, 2015 just a few days before the event, Rousey said she was taking a break.
She can be quoted by the magazine as saying:
“I’m selling a product and I have to be out there; I don’t have the option not to be… But after this fight, I’m definitely going to let some people miss me, for sure. Believe me, there’s nothing I would like to do more than disappear for a while.”
